Newcomer Information

If you are new to Al-Anon, please know that we are delighted you have joined us.  Many of us have found that by learning the Al-Anon program and applying its principles to our lives, we have found a more peaceful way of living.

One of the first things we learned is the simple yet profound Serenity Prayer:

If we truly are able to accept that there are circumstances and people in our lives over which we have no power or control, and gain the courage to change those things over which we do - our attitudes and behaviors - we can find a path that leads to much healthier, happier lives.

We have also found in Al-Anon much comfort from others who truly do understand the issues we face because they have faced them too.  We’ve found a fellowship where we come together, and by sharing our experience, strength and hope, we help each other find our own solutions to our problems.

Many of us have found that by attending meetings, getting a sponsor and working the steps, we gain the skills to improve ourselves.  We learn to keep the focus on us, not the alcoholic, to take responsibility for ourselves, and to let go of responsilities that are not ours.  By changing ourselves we can find peace and serenity whether the alcoholic stops drinking or not.

So, welcome to Al-Anon, and it is our sincere hope that you will find this program helpful.  And, we’ll give you the only advice you’re likely to hear from Al-Anon –

Keep coming back!
